Vincent Lombardi conquered the field of Golden Race Series competitors at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA, the first of seven officially sanctioned GT Golden Races across the U.S. With over 2,000 amateurs competing on the 19 mile course to capture the first Golden Bike, Vincent led the pack and took home the Gold. Vincent receives an all expense-paid trip for two to the next stop of the Golden Race Series to defend his title along with a commemorative GT Golden Bike, a $250 Sugoi gift certificate, and will be supported with a personal bike mechanic and his very own cheerleaders, the GT Gold Diggers at the at the GHORBA Big Ring Festival in Cold Spring, TX on May 3rd.
Vincent, originally from France but now living and training in Los Angeles, felt amazing after the victory. Flanked by the official GT Gold Diggers cheerleading squad, Vincent had this to say after his big win, “I am pretty excited, the bike is awesome…amazing.”
That’s right; your first shot at winning the Golden Bike has come and gone. But have no fear; Vincent’s win was captured on video. Watch it, study it, and use it as a guide for how to win when Vincent and his Gold Diggers roll in to defend his title. A second chance like this doesn’t come very often, especially not against someone sharing their name with a legendary Packers head coach. So watch the video, relive the golden opportunity you just lost, and then go train your heart out, because the competition for the GT Golden Bike isn’t going to get any easier. Lombardi's biggest competition in Texas will be David Hanes. Hanes is an amateur but he races with the Pro field in the local Texas series and has multiple top-5 finishes this year. MTBracenews racing reporter Sean Sindt will be bringing you all the action from Cold Spring this weekend, so check back here to find out who takes home the GT Golden Bike.
